Introduction

Bayan Lepas Regional Meteorological Office was established in February 1978 at the Bayan Lepas International Airport. A network of 6 meteorological surface stations, 1 upper air station, 1 radar station and 1 weather satellite receiving ground station was established to serve the primary function of continuous weather watch and to provide the necessary meteorological data for weather forecasting in the northern area of Peninsular Malaysia.

Functions

To maintain a continuous weather watch over Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
To provide the mandatory meteorological services for civil and military aviation.
To issue general weather forecast to the public.
To issue advisory and warning of severe or extreme weather conditions when necessary.
To provide specialised weather forecast and outlook.

Services

Flight weather document for international and domestic flights.
General weather forecast for the general public and hotels.
Radio weather forecast is issued every 8 hours.
Information and advice to the meteorological data users in the building, tourism, industrial, agriculture, fishery and marine sectors.
Advance warning on occurrences of adverse weather phenomena such as drought, fog or haze, torrential or strong monsoon rain and thunderstorm.
Supply of real-time meteorological data.
